Dedicated to Bessie S., a friend of many talents, (but just a friend, as she puts it)

and Nintendo, who obviously made Zelda.

                                             The Fairian and Dragonian
================================================================================================================

In the land of Sierr, the balance between magic is regulated between Fairies and Dragons. Fairies deal with white
magic, while Dragons deal with Black. Though neither race is fond of each other, neither one can affect the other.
...but humans, who have recieved the gift of magic, can harm both Fairy and Dragon alike. A child born of a Fairy
is considered a blessing to the whole world. A child born from a Dragon causes harm to all races. Never before has
a Fairy child and a Dragon child been on the earth at the same time. If they ever meet, it could destroy all of
humanity as we know it...

                                        The Disappearance of the Four Witches
================================================================================================================

It is well-known in the land of Sierr that the Four Witches of the Four Lands of Sierr were the last people to
defeat a Dragonian. They were the protectors of the four lands, and helped maintain the balance of magic.
However, one day, they disappeared, sealed away within their own shrines. Only Yura, the Great Fairy, knows what
happened to them.

                                                   A Hero Must Rise
================================================================================================================

Rick was the son of a great Dragon-slayer who served the king. As such, he was taught how to use a sword. He's
always willing to go on an adventure, just like his father. ...however, his father passed away after chasing out
another Dragon from Gaius. From then on, he always visited the place where his father died.

It's only a matter of time that he would begin his journey to face a Dragonian and reunite the Four Witches...

================================================================================================================

The goal of the game is to travel within all eight dungeons, save the Four Witches and retrieve their Amulets
within the dungeons, and eventually defeat the Dragonian himself. Good luck!

                                                 Contents of Zip File
================================================================================================================

Unzip this file, and you should have a folder with ALL this stuff in it. ...trust me, you should UNZIP this.
Otherwise, you may never see the first level or save your game.

Dragonian.exe- You double-click this to play the game. NEVER, EVER delete, unless you hate this game.
README.txt- This thing.
Lands- Every bit of the land of Sierr is in this folder. Don't delete. EVER.
Scripts- Every bit of story is in this folder. Don't delete, EVER.
Savs- All that progress you make and Joypad controls end up in this folder. Don't delete, EVER.
Maps- Every map in this game is here. Don't delete, EVER.
GFX- Certain important graphics pertaining to the ending is in this folder. Don't delete, EVER.
RickTielSabrina.jpg- Just an image of three major characters. Rick's the one in the middle. Tiel's the one on
   the left (though her sleeves are the wrong color), and Sabrina's the one on the right. This is in case anyone
   crazy wants to make any fan art based on this game. Go ahead and delete it. It does nothing.

                                                   Technical Notes
================================================================================================================

This game is designed to work on a Windows computer with DirectX, which is pretty standard on most computers by now.
It runs sufficiently on Windows XP, though there will be some slowdown. It does run faster on a Windows 7 computer,
though... sometimes. For some reason, if there's heavy lag, it always seems to run fast enough when a joypad is
plugged in on anything beyond Windows XP. Not intentionally, mind you, but it happens.
I cannot say if it works on a Linux, as I don't know many people who own such computers.
It's known to not work on a Mac, though, making it unable to load from the txt files in the folder.

Download the whole package. Don't run it straight from the web or straight from the zip file.

This program only runs if its window is selected. If it's not selected, it'll freeze until you select its window
again. In other words, you can't type in a word processor and play this at the same time. It's for safety reasons,
I assure you.

If you have a USB joypad with at least eight buttons, the game will automatically detect it to allow joypad input.
Thankfully, the settings save automatically afterwards, but if you ever need to change them, press the J key at the
opening sequence. (After "Long Ago, Far Away...")
...but make sure it's plugged in BEFORE you run the game.

If there's anything wrong with your computer monitor, causing it to shut off and turn on, or if the computer
goes to sleep in mid-game, the program could display a black screen. Nothing really can be done about that, but you
shouldn't be playing with things like that when using a computer, anyway.

Mashing the Shift key could accidentally activate StickyKeys on Windows. Please deactivate that in any way possible,
because this game uses the Shift key a lot. Besides that, there really isn't much mashing of the key in this
game.

Also, if you have an older version of the game, you can transfer your save files over. That's convenient.

                                                     Updates
================================================================================================================

6/22/2015- After getting complaints about the camera, I've added a few extra functions. Q and W can now rotate
 the camera. I can see this being useful in-game.
 As an added bonus, if you push D in the Pause Menu, you can now make the camera rotate as you move left or
 right, just like in Ocarina of Time. ...but it could cause motion sickness. Since it's a toggle switch,
 activating and deactivating it can make the game easier in certain places.

6/23/2015- Fixed some issues with the Bottle. Now, you can't waste it by accident.

6/25/2015- ...boy, I feel stupid. Now, buying bombs and shurikens means actually getting bombs and shurikens.
 You're not accidentally giving money away. ...but bombs and shurikens are pretty common, so this could easily
 be ignored.

6/27/2015- Increased the frequency of dropped items. Not much. ...also, typo fix.

6/29/2015- Un-increased the frequency of dropped items. ...but improved the amount of hearts dropped. ...but
 the money/bomb/shuriken drop decreased in the process. ...and I feel even dumber because the Bomb-buying issue
 caused a bigger issue that could harm the game. FIXED!!!

9/07/2015- Fixed the cloning glitch, and rebalanced the item drop frequency. Also, made two separate versions:
one for post-Windows XP computers (to hopefully perform better) and one for Windows XP computers. They may look
the same, but they do affect your computer differently. If Version A (for Post-XP computers) doesn't work for
you, try Version B. ...but start with Version A.

1/21/2016- Fixed some glitches involving Twelkin Buns. It's now safe to give them to your girlfriend. ...and
some other script glitches.

4/28/2016- Did something for near the end of the game to make it easier.

                                                     Controls

D- Camera behind back ...just that.
Q/W- Rotate Camera
Enter- Open Pause Menu

Pause Menu Controls-

The camera automatically rotates behind the player if he does nothing for a brief moment.

================================================================================================================

Rick- Our hero
  He's got black hair and a blue outfit.
  His father died many years ago by the hands of a Dragon. He seems like a silent protagonist, but he does have
  occasional outbursts.

Tiel- An Elfling Girl
  She's got pink hair and a green outfit.
  She comes from a faraway land, but lives in Gaius Village. She's always liked Rick ever since she came to town.

Sabrina- The Princess
  She's got brown hair and a gold dress.
  This curious princess has been having strange dreams, and reads a lot of books in order to become a good queen.

Verne- A fellow adventurer
  He's got green hair and silver armor.
  He likes collecting treasures in his spare time. He's commonly found in dungeons.

The Four Witches
  They maintain the strength of the Four Elements with the aid of Fairies and Dragons alike.

Tabitha- Witch of Earth
  She's an old-looking woman with ragged hair.
  Guardian of Gaius, land of Earth. When Tiel arrived in Gaius, Tabitha took Tiel in to live with her.
Elsaba- Witch of Fire
  She's a gray-haired woman with a red dress.
  Guardian of Incendia, land of Fire. She has the best relations with the Dragons than anyone else.
Cherlindrea- Witch of Wind
  She's distinctly blonde and the youngest-looking.
  Guardian of Stratos, land of Wind. She's strangely young and beautiful.
Almithea- Witch of Water

  Guardian of Vapora, land of Water. She has occasional communications with Yura and her fairies.

Yura- Fairy Queen
  She's always mysterious, treating everyone like they're her children.
Ghidra- Dragon King
  He is probably never seen, except a pair of glowing red eyes. Courage to stand firm is needed to talk with him.

The Fairies
  They look like little glowing orbs with wings.
  These little Fairies are actually rather grumpy when you meet them.
The Dragons
  ...you'll know when you see them.
  A good amount of them serve the evil Dragonian Balzoda.

Balzoda- The Dragonian
  Half-human, half-dragon. He's evil. Enough said.

================================================================================================================
                                                      Items
================================================================================================================

Heart
  This heals you. You can either get them from whacking bad guys, or by cutting down or plucking wild flowers.

Flower
  They're pretty much everywhere. You can collect them by using the Flower Basket.

Key
  There's a few in every dungeon. If you ever mess up, though, you can always buy one at Central Town...
  under certain conditions.

Heart Container
  Collect one to live longer. Usually, every boss has one.

Heart Piece
  Collect four to earn a Heart Container. If you want to collect them all, do favors for the people in town, or
  better yet, try to win the hearts of two certain girls... but there are a few hiding about the land, too.

Sword
  Never leave home without it. Pressing the X key swings it. If you hold it down, you can do a spin attack.

Flower Basket
  Pluck wild flowers from the ground. What's it for, really? Well, you'll find out soon enough...

Bottle
  This thing can be bought to fill with healing potions.

Bombs
  They go boom. You throw one, it goes boom. It blows up rocks. You need a Bomb Bag to hold them, though.

Shurikens
  You throw them at switches and bad guys. You'll need a Shuriken belt to use them, though. If you have a hard
  time aiming, use Q and W to control the camera.

Running Boots
  Use these to run faster, joust into enemies, and slam into walls and trees. ...especially trees.

Magic Powder
  Sprinkle this on enemies or red flowers... especially red flowers.

Grapple Shot
  Shoot this at any round-ish object that's wooden, and you'll be pulled into it. ...but don't try it out on
  any cactus. That'll hurt. If you have a hard time aiming, use Q and W to control the camera.

Flute
  Use this to play a mystical tune. It can summon a tornado that can warp you anywhere in the land, lower
  the water level of one particular fountain, and it hurts bunnies.

Mr. Decoy
  Plop him anywhere, especially on top of switches. ...and when you do, push his button again, and he'll explode.

Fire Rod
  It shoots out fireballs. ...and it melts big blocks of ice.

Laser Rod
  It fires a laser designed to hit switches, usually all at the same time. It can also stun enemies. If you have
  a hard time aiming, use Q and W to control the camera. ...also moving around while firing helps, too.

Wrecking Ball
  ...this thing is expensive. That's all you need to know.

There are also the Four Witches' Amulets, but you'll find out soon enough.

================================================================================================================
                                                   Puzzle Stuff
================================================================================================================

Sometimes, doors just won't open. Sometimes, you have to whack every enemy in the room. Other times, you have to
worry about the following to open that door:

Blocks
  You push them. You can't pull them.

Buttons
  You step on them. ...but if it doesn't stay down, get some other thing to keep it down, like a block or Mr.
  Decoy.

Crystal Switch
  Whack these in any way possible. ...but if they don't stay lit, try whacking them all at the same time.

The Four Witches
  At the end of the first four levels, you'll find the Four Witches. You must save them by breaking their crystal
  prisons with your sword. Without their help, you may never get out of the dungeon or meet the Dragonian himself.

================================================================================================================
                                                 The Monsters
================================================================================================================

Slime
  They're green. They're slimy. They're easy to get rid of. They're common in dungeons.

Pig
  These guys always go after you. ...they aren't that bright, though.

Octo
  These guys just love spitting rocks at you. Luckily, your shield will protect you.

Bat
  These guys love dungeons and caves. They like going downward when they see someone close to them. Just swing
  your sword wildly.

Li'l Skully
  These guys only appear in Sierr Field. They pop out of nowhere, just so you can whack them.

Garlic
  They fly around in the desert for no apparent reason.

Hopper
  These guys wander around outside, ready to hop on unsuspecting heroes.

Guard
  These guys patrol Stratos, ready to attack you. Go ahead. Whack them back.

Skully
  Unlike their Li'l counterparts, these guys are fast, and don't give up so easily.

Vamp
  These guys appear in dungeons only. Somehow, they split into two bats when they get hurt.

Mummy
  These don't usually flinch at your attacks. ...but they are highly flammable.

Cake
  Uh... these guys aren't your garden variety cakes. They wanna eat you. They also hurt a lot.
  Besides that, they do nothing.

Ghost
  If you get too close to one, they will show you their true face... Also, attack them at all costs.

Bunny
  Their ears are rather sensitive to things like music. Besides that, they're easy targets most of the time.

Frickin' Wizard
  Hoo, boy. They usually appear, launch a magic wave at you, disappear, rinse and repeat.

================================================================================================================
                                                    Additional Notes
================================================================================================================

GET THE ITEMS, DANGIT!

If you ever think you're clever and try to use a key you got in one dungeon in another dungeon, you could get
stuck easily. If that happens, buy a key in Central Town.

There is one random dungeon hidden in the land of Sierr. You'll need 14 Heart containers to access it, which
means you need ALL the heart pieces in the land, and must have cleared the eight main dungeons.

Getting hit hurts. Dodge.

If there's a closed door, either activate all the switches in a room, or just whack anything that moves.

If you DON'T want to lock onto an enemy, but want to get the camera behind the back, press the D key.

Q and W rotate the camera. Use this to help aim with Shurikens, the Grapple Shot, the Laser Rod, and other stuff.

There are a few Easter eggs in the game. Mostly subtle things for gamers who like fooling around.
