So I thought, it’s time to get started on the IndieMendable project again! I was making a very handy online utility for tracking bugs on my other project and now there’s a green page for IndieMendable too. It combines a to-do list with a changelog and bug tracker and everything! It’s called Changelog++ for now, but awaiting a name change.
I now connected the SATA hard disk drive to the Raspberry Pi 3 using a different (better) SATA to USB adapter. Hopefully that will solve the problem, so the site won’t go offline unexpectedly anymore. 🙂
Game ID conflicts
The new range of games uploaded on IndieMendable starts at 229673 (Plants by Yambam) and the latest game is currently 229679 (Carnage), though maybe I missed some game files that needed to be moved to their new game ID. So my question for you is, are there still any games that can’t be downloaded or missing some comments/screenshots. Then I just need to change their ‘place’ ID, you can recognize this problem when a PHP error shows up (I hope not though), or when you see the following message: “Missing game information (I just need the number that follows between parentheses like these)” or “Missing information”
You know, something went wrong with the website and it didn’t work out, even after 14 days of fiddling with the Orange Pi. That made us step back to the Raspberry Pi, though a newer version, namely the Raspberry Pi 3B+. (If you have been following the earlier happenings on this website, maybe you remember that this site ran on a Raspberry Pi 2B+ previously and on a HP-Compaq even before that.)
The last time the website was still working on the Orange Pi, it was all running quite good, but then the database got corrupt, and not long after I noticed some avatars of yours were corrupt too… Luckily I had some backups, but not long after I restored them, the storage (simply a 16GB USB-stick) suddenly became unwritable. And from then on, it went quite bad with the server actually…
So now I just need to reupload some of your games. (I still have them and the screenshots, only the descriptions, the tags and the few comments are missing…)
Here’s a list of the games I still need to upload (incomplete):
Subscribe to this Atom using Firefox or using the combination of Thunderbird + Growl addon + Growl for Windows to receive notifications of new games, users or comments. 🙂
Visit our YoYo Games Archive using the link at the top-right of the site. The archive works like this:
You can browse the saved pages, like you would browse the original website before it was taken down.
You can search games using the search box, which has been made fully functional (except for the filters, like categories and stuff).
Unsaved pages are searched for on the WayBack Machine. And when found they get saved on our servers too.
Download games. This works as long as the game hasn’t been skipped because of a bug in ArchiveTeam’s script (only happened a few times).
The archive looks like this:
Don’t confuse the archive with the index, which is another feature of IndieMendable. When searching using our site’s search feature and switching to the YoYo Games Index at the left, you get the refreshed game page which generally loads faster than the archive:
Great news! The website has been fully launched today. 😀 Users can upload their games, YoYo’s WayBack Archive has been crawled using some keywords and there is the new YoYo archive, which however it didn’t contain much at the point I was still using it, it updates itself using the WayBack Machine while you’re using it. And the forums and the wiki are usable too.
Then there’s the new Dropbox-like ability of dropping extra files next to your game files inside your browser, so you can upload sources or extra resources like level packs directly on this site.
And finally, site notifications (both email and on the site) are new too. 🙂
Apologies for the 21 emails some of you members received. It were supposed to be 7, but the mail server’s queue got stuck and so I resent them twice… eventually the email queue somehow got loose anyway and I forgot to delete the other emails. :S
That won’t happen again. It was only a one-time operation to get some members active again. Sorry about the inconvenience!
This theme is very restricting and the website’s underlying code is very messy at the moment, to be honest. xD So what I’m going to do is: redesign the whole website & recode/reorganize most of the website! So I’m going for a more content-oriented approach while also making the community’s activities more apparent/visible. 😀
So what can I tell you about its new appearance? I just can’t show yet how it’s going to look like, but I do know that I’m starting from ‘scratch’ (only to reuse all the little utilities I made and all the extensions I used, of course). And instead of making its looks as close as possible to the original sandbox (which is also a very fun thing to do!), I’m trying to look for some alternative web design!
Let me know below if you have any suggestions. 😉
I’m making this post to let you know all the data is still here. I’m moving the server to Ubuntu and I’m experiencing some problems importing the database because this is a newer version of MySQL. I’m working on it! 🙂
Kind regards,
Imanuel
UPDATE (7 March at 11:49):
Fixed! Everything’s back to normal. 😀
ANOTHER UPDATE (13 March at 21:41):
I’m back to Windows again. 😛 Ubuntu just keeps crashing on this computer because of VirtualBox.
Hello people. This site needs a new name due to some registered trademark issues… For now I just gave it a new name to see how it looks. What do you think of it? Do you have any other ideas?
